A dataset of antimicrobial-resistance news from a global news index, January 2019 – July 2026, built with the Prism News API (historical and real-time news, https://radar-api.fliarbi.com/news). Every row is one indexed article about antibiotic or antimicrobial resistance, with its date, location, tone, editorial priority, themes and the organisations it names, plus a link that returns the full article through the API. Key findings
In a global news index covering January 2019 to July 2026, antimicrobial resistance took 3.94 of every 10,000 news articles in 2019 and 3.78 in 2025, so its share of attention did not grow even though the number of matched articles rose 2.19-fold over the same years.
Basis: Annual matched articles divided by all articles in the index for the same year; 51,769 de-duplicated matched articles in total.
Antimicrobial resistance took a 24% smaller share of news in 2020 than in 2019 (3.0 against 3.94 articles per 10,000 news articles), the lowest annual share between 2019 and 2025, in the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Basis: Annual matched articles per 10,000 articles in the index.
Leaving aside January, whose share is inflated by journal records dated 1 January, November (8.78%) and December (8.69%) held the largest shares of each year's antimicrobial-resistance coverage between 2019 and 2025, against a mean of 7.28% for the eleven months from February to December; November is the month of World Antibiotic Awareness Week.
Basis: Within-year month shares averaged over the complete years 2019–2025.
September 2024, the month of the United Nations General Assembly high-level meeting on antimicrobial resistance, was the month in which the topic took its largest share of news in 2024 outside January, at 3.98 articles per 10,000; the highest such month in the whole period was December 2025, at 5.89.
Basis: Monthly matched articles per 10,000 news articles, every month from January 2019 to July 2026.
Model ratings of editorial priority placed 93.4% of antimicrobial-resistance articles at critical priority (7 or higher on a 1–9 scale) between January 2023 and July 2026, 2.19 times the 42.6% share for all news, while only 27.2% were negative in tone against 33.6% of all news.
Basis: Top priority and tone labels per article; critical = priority ≥ 7.
